In May 2024, Transurban North America joined hundreds of organizations across the United States as part of the U.S. Department of Transportation National Safety Council’s Road to Zero Coalition—a collaboration focused on ending all traffic fatalities by 2050.

The Coalition is a coordinated, data-driven response to the thousands of lives lost on American roadways each year. Road to Zero was founded in 2016 by a group of public and private entities, including the federal government, state government, nonprofit, and private sector entities. With the release of the Road to Zero report, we have a plan to reach this goal through three main initiatives:

  • Double down on what works through proven, evidence-based strategies.
  • Advance lifesaving technology in vehicles and infrastructure.
  • Prioritize safety by adopting a safe systems approach and creating a positive safety culture.

The Coalition also issues Safe System Innovation Grants annually, funded by the United States Department of Transportation. Now totaling millions of dollars invested in organizations focused on adopting countermeasures that are proven to reduce crashes and save lives.

Through continuously improving our safety efforts both on and off the roads, Transurban’s contributions to the coalition align with our culture of safety that is engrained in everything we do. We look forward to continued collaboration in an additional capacity—because the Road to Zero will take all of us.
